COVID-19 Response

The United States currently has the dubious distinction of having the worst rates in the world of COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations and deaths. The federal government gave 82% of CARES Act funds to millionaires and billionaires, whose wealth increased by over $1.2 trillion the first nine months of the pandemic, while more than 38 million people in the US experienced hunger in 2020.

Since March 2020, MWA members and volunteers have been running a COVID-19 response effort including telephone outreach to contact MWA members and find out current needs, no-contact food deliveries, mask distribution, advocacy to stop utility shutoffs, fight for rent assistance—and more! MWA’s medical education and information sessions involving licensed medical professionals have assisted hundreds of MWA members and others to obtain scientific information about COVID and vaccines—dispelling confusion and misinformation, as well as arranging COVID vaccinations.

Volunteers are needed daily to continue expanding these benefits and to organize monthly COVID-19 medical education, information and vaccination sessions. Call today to join this critical work!
